Bonuses and rakeback
All online poker rooms offer bonuses these days. It has become the most natural thing for a player to expect to be hit with a nice bonus offer upon joining a poker room. Most players however, are not only unable to correctly assess a bonus offer, they cannot recognize value if it were to hit them straight between the eyes. Let?s see what makes a bonus valuable and let?s also discuss which of the bonuses on offer present the most advantages and why.
A bonus? actual value has little to do with the sum advertised by the poker room. That sum usually represents a maximum of the percentage match that you?ll get on your deposit. Most people know this. The value of the bonus is also dependant on the ease with which it?ll be unlocked, which is in turn dependent on a set of factors.
The fewer player points (the less rake) is required to unlock the bonus, the more attainable the objective will be for the player. Hindering factors like the short validity term on the bonus and whether or not it is unlocked in one lump sum, also come into play here. These factors determine - in a nutshell ? the overall value of a sign-up bonus.
Most people know that regardless of the fact that they have to be unlocked, bonuses have a positive influence over their long-term play. Few people know however, exactly how the bonus influences their EV/bet. Let's suppose that a player is working to unlock his bonus. He succeeds and finally gets the money transferred to his real money account. While working to unlock the bonus, our guy generates quite a few times the bonus amount in rake (depending on the rake requirement policies of the site). Basically, it's safe to state that he gets a part of the rake he generated back. While unlocking his bonus, he works with rakeback.
The problem with regular sign-up bonuses is though, that once they?re unlocked, they no longer offer the player reduced rake. They?re like a limited-time rakeback deal. Real rakeback deals offer the exact same advantages (sometimes they offer the same percentage back as bonuses or ? in the case of prop deals ? much better). These rakeback deals never expire. The rakeback money that flows into one?s real money account this way can easily turn a loser into a winner at the end of the month.
The advantage for the poker room offering such deals is not only the fact that players will find it attractive and join. Such a permanent rakeback deal will make sure signed-up players stay loyal. Because their bonuses never expire, they will have no real reason to move on to another poker room.
