Lucky River…

Played in a small cash game last night at my friends place, 10$/10$ blinds only NL Hold’em. There was 6 of us playing with buy-in from $500-$1000max at a time. After a few beers 3 of my friends seemed to forget that you are allowed to fold your cards in this game so it was basically impossible to pull a bluff off since I was getting called by not 1 but most of the time all 3 of them lol…After loosing my first $500 I bought in for a $1000 and changed up my game a bit, started playing tighter with them and waiting for really good hands to really reel these fishes in. I got up to about $1800 and that when I got crazy lucky for a change instead of one of them catchin something on the river like they have been doing all night long. I had 9,9 on the button and raise to $185 since I really didnt want to have anyone in the hand with sub-par hands. To my susprise 2 of my drunk buddies folded but 1 called. Flop came out Q,K,6 which was obviously bad for me but thankfully he checked over to me and so did I. Turn came a 2 and there were 3 different suits on board so no possibility of a flush. He bet $250 and I knew he caught either a Q or a K but for some reason just felt like calling and I did. River came a 9 and he went all in right away and before even moving all of his chips in got an instant call from me. He turned over Q,K and then I showed my set of 9′s lol…Since we are friends I threw him a $100 chip just because I got so lucky and that brought me up to over $3000 right away and I ended up leaving the table with $3500 at the end of the night, but that is just a reminder of how bad that dreadfull river card could hurt, thankfully in this case the luck was on my side.

Doing well in Cash Games in 09′

Hey, been having a pretty good run at the cash game tables so far this year. Went to play again last night at the $25/$25 NL Hold’em table. There was only one regular sitting down at the table and the rest foreigners that I never seen before and one of them has had too many drinks already so was fishing for everything. I bought in for $2000 and in the first 30 minutes or so lost about half my stack on some bad beat hands. I added one more thousand so I was back up to two and started playing a bit tighter after getting a feel of the players at the table. The cards weren’t really going my way last night but I stuck it out. Made big folds even when I was holding decent hands as well as making the right calls. I wasnt really in much of the action for about an hour during which the familiar face at the table built his stack up from $5000 to a little over $20,000. He is a good player and happened to be hitting everything last night. Then once the button came around to me and I looked at my cards I was holding AQ of diamonds. I made a raise to $250 and was called by the big stack. flop came out A,9,Q with two hearts on board. He checked it over to me, I bet $250 and he called instantly. Turn was a J and he checked it over as did I being a little scarred of a possible straight considering he has been hitting big hands all night long. The turn was another A giving me the Nut’s so after he checked I bet out $300 which he called and then mucked his cards. That brought me up to having a little over $3000 but again I had to wait for quite sometime to hit it big. My turn came about 45 minutes after that last hand where I picked up A8 of diamonds being in the big blind. The big stack called and the drunk guy sitting in small blind raised to $150…Since it wasn’t that big of a raise I called as did the 3rd player. Flop came out A,8,7 rainbow so I knew I was sitting pretty good. I checked, the big stack bet $300 and me along with the original raiser called. Turn was a 2, the small blind checked, I bet out $300 with the player after me calling and the drunk dude before me going all in $1700…After debating for a few minutes I decided to take my chances and called as did the big stack after me which got me pretty nervous I must say. River was a 9 and we both checked it through. When cards were flipped the big stack had just a pair of 8′s, small blind was holding A,J so I gladly turned over my two pairs, Aces and 8′s… Now maybe it wasn’t a smart call on my part but it turned out well and brought me up to nearly $7000 right away. After that I played a couple of more hands and since it was 3am already I got up to go home being up a little over $3000. So I am very happy at my showings so far this year, nothing big but for me its pretty good and hopefully it continues that way…Feel free to comment if that last call was a right thing to do or just a stupid move with me getting lucky that the other players didn’t have the hands that they were showing with their bets.

The “Durrrr” Challenge…

As I am sure most of you have heard already, Tom “Durrrr” Dwan has announced that he will challenge anyone in heads-up online poker play for a chance for the challenger to win $1 million. He is willing to put up $1.5 million to any challengers $500,000…Although he said in some of his statements posted on several online sources that this wasn’t supposed to go public yet the word has been spreading fast across the poker world. The challenge basically consists of him and whoever will take up on his challenge to be playing four tables at a time heads-up with a minimum $200/$400 blinds. They both have to play at least 50,000 hands and whichever one of them finishes with more profit or being the least in minus wins the bet. Now if you ask me, two things come to my mind right away. First is that Tom must be feeling pretty confident about his game right now willing to put up a million more than his opponent. The second is that if I had that kind of money to gamble with then it sounds like a pretty sweet deal. A chance to win a million while putting up only $500,000…Supposedly Patrick Antonius has already accepted the challenge and a couple more players are thinking about it. This will be very entertaining to follow although will probably take quite some time for the whole challenge to finish. If Antonius really follows through with this then I am rooting for him (sorry Tom) since I’ve been a fan of his game for quite a while now. Please feel free to comment, would be interesting to hear everybody’s thoughts on this one of a kind call-out that has taken place and who do you think would win? Durrrr or Antonius…

Being on Tilt helped out for once…

Hello. So Saturday night me and my friend decided to go play a little bit in a cash game before going out to a club. We went to the casinos and they were running a $2000 minimum buy-in table with 25/25 blinds. It was dealers choice of three game’s: Hold’em, Omaha Hi and Omaha Hi-Low. We both bought in with $2000 since nobody had big stacks at the table yet. My first hand I got AA and won about $800 so got a bit excited from that and lost my $2000 plus the money I won the quite quickly. I decided to give it one more go and made one more buy-in for $2000. The cards just weren’t coming to me and even when they were I was forced to fold under pressure from bigger stacks. Soon enough I was on tilt. Aggravated that nothing was going my way and not catching a break I went down to about $1300 making stupid calls and that’s when my turnaround came. I picked up a strong starting hand in Omaha and hit the nut flush on the flop. There were no pairs on board so I went all in after a little raise and got called by two players, one of whom had a bit less money than me so he was all-in as well. After taking down that pot I was back up to $3700 and this is when my night changing hand came. It was Omaha once again and I had A,4 of heart’s and Q,J of spades so I raised pot and only one player called. Flop came out 7,2,5 with two cards being heart’s. I raised pot once again and my opponent re-raised me. In a desperation move I went all-in and got called, once the card’s were flipped, turned out he already had a set of 7′s. Luckily for me a 3 came out on the river giving me a low straight and I took down the pot bringing me up to almost $8000 right away. After that I hit a set of King’s in hold’em and picked up another $1000 from that and then shortly after hit Quads on the turn in Omaha Hi-low. By then it was about 1:30am so both me and my friend decided to head out. He ended up winning about $2400 and I was up $4900 so it was a good way to start of a Saturday night.

Good start to 2009…

Hello. I’m back after the long New Year’s celebration, hope everyone had a good and safe one. So I haven’t played live since Christmas and decided to head over to the casino last night for my first tournament of 2009. I entered into the $220 buy-in Hold’em/Omaha-Hi game last night which also allows you two $200 rebuy’s anytime during the first hour of play each one giving you 1000 chips. I guess people are still getting back on track with their lives after the holidays so the tourney wasn’t full. When final registration closed there were 44 of us competing against each other. A friend of mine came along with me to play and when we drew the seat order cards we ended up sitting right next to each other which paid off for me right away. As soon as we sat down we started a conversation while an Omaha hand was being dealt out and for some reason I said I was going to get Quad J’s this hand on the flop. After looking at my cards what do you know? I was holding AJ of diamonds and QJ of spades, so pretty nice starting hand in Omaha. Just because of the conversation that just took place I raised pot, the guy after me re-raised pot, player after him went all-in, my friend went all-in and of course I called since I figured I have pot-odds even if anyone has a higher pair plus I have 2 high flush draws. We all had 1000 in chips, 4 ppl in the game and I flopped the nut Diamond flush right away. So after the 1st hand I had a bit over 4000 and never stopped from then on. Must admit I got dealt pretty good cards when I needed them and was in position. Recall one moment where I had AA and my opponent ended up having KK. I raised, he re-raised and I pushed all-in which he called and ended up loosing after I hit a set of Aces on the flop. That brought me up to be one of the chip leaders mid-way through the tourney. At the final table I knocked out 2 more people one of them being my buddie that came with me. With 3 of us left and me sitting on the button I had KK and raised and my friend went all in with 66′s. After knocking him out we played heads up for about 10 more minutes but our stacks were practically identical and we agreed for a split of $6300 each. So pretty happy about starting the new year on the right track and taking down my first tournament of 2009.
